I agree with Bittman when he says “the time has come to stop raising [animals] industrially and stop eating them thoughtlessly”. This is because I feel as though if we keep eating the way that we do, we will run out of livestock for us to even eat, which provide essential nutrients for us. Though they have nutrients we need, we do not need to eat nearly as much as we actually do. I personally am disgusted with how animals are raised and treated on industrial farms. They are tortured and live in horrible conditions, with their caretakers” purposefully hurting and harassing them. I do still eat meat, just not nearly as much as a lot of other people around me. My reasoning is very emotionally drawn because growing up it was just my mother and I in a small underground apartment. She did not approve of eating any beef or pork because they are so intelligent and beautiful creatures. We used poultry products because she believed that they were ugly anyway. Once my dad moved in when I was in high school, he brought some beef to my pallet. But the way my mom raised me emotionally and ethically really affects my judgment today.
